Real-life wellbeing for women over 40

Everley Journal report: The real reason so many women over 40 struggle with their shape, and the simple everyday change that helps

If your body feels softer, stiffer and less "held together" every year, even though you walk, eat sensibly and have tried just about everything, read this before you spend another cent on a diet plan or a gym membership.

Hi, I'm Claire. I'm 52, and for the last few years I've been quietly annoyed with my own body.

Not in a dramatic way. I walk most days. I eat reasonably well. I've done the step counter, the "no bread after six" rule and two gym memberships I'm not proud of.

And still, somewhere after 45, my shape started to change. Softer around the middle. Hips and thighs that felt heavier. Stiff after an afternoon at my desk. Jeans that fit in March and pinched by June.

When I started asking friends about it, I heard the same story again and again. Women in their forties and fifties, busy mums, women with demanding jobs, women going through the menopause. Same pattern, every time.

You do everything right, and your body still feels different

It wasn't that we were lazy. It wasn't that we ate badly. It was that our bodies had quietly changed the way they move through a normal day.

Not because we stopped trying. The problem sat somewhere we never thought to look...

After a lot of reading, I found it: a group of muscles most of us never think about...

...the deep, stabilising muscles around your hips, pelvis and core, which work quietly in the background all day long.

They make the small automatic movements, posture corrections and balance adjustments that happen every time you stand up, walk, carry the shopping or climb the stairs.

In short:

They are the underrated engine behind how upright, steady and "put together" you feel.

Over the years I kept hearing the same sentences from the women around me:

"I walk every day, but my body just doesn't look or feel the way it used to."

"I used to notice a difference whenever I made a small change. Now nothing seems to work."

"By the evening my legs feel heavy and all I want to do is sit down."

...and I realised something didn't add up.

These women weren't lazy. They weren't careless.

They walked, they watched what they ate, and still their shape kept drifting, year after year.

So I started paying closer attention.

The part nobody talks about: your deep "everyday" muscles

Deep muscles at work= a body that moves all day Woman walking upright, deep hip and core muscles at work
  • Lots of small movements
  • Upright, supported posture
  • Steady on your feet
Deep muscles on standby= a body that sits all day Woman slumped on a sofa, deep muscles on standby
  • Long stretches of sitting
  • Slumping and stiffness
  • Legs that feel heavy by evening

So why do these muscles go quiet after 40?

Illustration of the deep hip and pelvis muscles, active versus on standby
Activesteady, upright, movingOn standbystiff, slumped, sitting

For many women from their mid-thirties onwards, these deep muscles get less and less to do. Long hours of sitting, stress, hormonal changes and plain tiredness all push in the same direction: we move a little less, and in a less varied way.

Until, bit by bit, they go quiet.

Important: this is a normal part of getting older that happens to almost every woman. It is not your fault.

That's when it clicked for me:

The problem wasn't that we were doing too little exercise. It was how little our bodies were moving in between.

And that changed everything.

Why the hours between workouts matter more than the workout

A typical waking day

55% sitting still
7.7 hours a day sitting or otherwise inactive
Standing, walking and all the small movements of daily life
Source: Matthews et al., American Journal of Epidemiology, 2008. Activity-monitor data from more than 6,000 people in the US: on average 54.9% of waking time (7.7 hours a day) was spent sedentary.

To understand why so many women feel stuck, you have to look at how an ordinary day is actually spent.

Most of the movement in our day doesn't come from sport or a planned walk...

...it comes from NEAT:

NEAT = "Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis"

In plain English: all the small, unplanned movement of daily life. Standing up, walking to the kitchen, carrying things, shifting your weight, keeping your balance...

And here's the important part:

Your deep stabilising muscles are involved in almost all of it. They:

...and they work in the background with every step, every movement and every posture you hold.

Researchers who study NEAT describe it as one of the most variable parts of our day: it differs enormously from one person to the next, depending on things like their job and daily routine.

Read the research yourself:

What happens when the deep muscles stay quiet for years...

When the deep muscles get less and less to do, which is the case for many women over 40, the whole body slowly drifts out of balance.

At first it seems harmless:

...and one evening you catch yourself in the mirror and think: when did that happen?

We've all been there.

But that's only the beginning.

Underneath, something slower is happening...

  1. You move a little less each month, usually without noticing.
  2. Your posture slumps and stiffness creeps in.
  3. You start avoiding the things that used to be easy: the long walk, the stairs, the dance floor.

...and suddenly it feels like nothing you do makes a difference any more.

It's exactly what so many women tell me: "I'm trying everything, and my body just won't cooperate!"

And if nothing changes at this point, it rarely stays the same. It tends to get gradually worse.

Day by day.

Week by week.

Year by year.

⚠️ WHAT MANY WOMEN NOTICE:
What happens if the deep muscles keep getting less and less to do?

► More stiffness, less steadiness
(getting up from a chair or the floor takes more effort)

► A posture that slowly slumps
(rounded shoulders, a softer middle, a "collapsed" feeling by the end of the day)

► Legs that feel heavy and tired by the evening
(especially after a long day of sitting or standing)

► Clothes that fit differently
(waistbands that dig in, jeans that pinch, leggings that roll down)

► Moving less, because moving feels like effort
(fewer walks, more sitting, and the cycle feeds itself)

► A dip in confidence
(avoiding photos, the beach, the dance floor)

How it's supposed to work...

In a younger, more active body, the deep muscles work in the background all the time.

They don't just keep you steady. They keep you moving: every time you stand, walk, reach or carry something, they switch on for a moment.

When they're doing their job, you stand taller, you feel steadier, and everyday movement feels easy, so you naturally move more.

In theory, this should happen every single day, in the gaps between everything else.

When it does, your body simply feels more like yours.

Not long ago a friend said to me:

"But Claire, I'm 54, not 24. Isn't this just how it is now?"

It's true, none of us are 24 any more...

But there is something you can do about it. The question is what.

And this is exactly where most of the usual "fixes" fall short

Diet salad and tape measure Gym workout Massage and firming creams Tight old-fashioned shapewear

Before I understood this, I tried just about everything: more steps, diets, fitness classes, creams, massage rollers, "detox" teas and shapewear that made me feel like a sausage.

And every time it was the same pattern: a little progress, then back to square one.

Now I understand why.

👉 All of these work on the surface, not on how your body moves through an ordinary day.

Let me explain:

1. Diets change what you eat, but not how much you move between meals.

2. Workouts help, but one hour at the gym doesn't undo nine hours in a chair.

3. Creams and massagers feel nice, but they don't change how you stand, sit or walk.

4. Old-fashioned shapewear squeezes you in, but it pinches, rolls down and makes you want to sit still: the opposite of what your body needs.

5. Waiting for motivation rarely works, because life gets in the way.

And that's before you add up what all of it costs every month.

The real issue we all need to understand is...

...how little the deep, everyday muscles get to do, for most women, most of the day.

If you want to feel steadier, more upright and more like yourself, that's the part that needs support.

And unlike the usual "fixes", the approach I found works exactly there.

The only approach that fits into a normal day, with nothing extra to do

Because let's be honest:

Nobody does special deep-muscle exercises every day.

Nobody sticks to a strict training plan or diet forever.

And nobody has the time or energy for 20 minutes of massages, creams or gadgets every evening.

That's exactly why I went looking for something that works automatically.

Something you wear while you live your normal life: walking, sitting, shopping, working, exactly when the deep muscles should be doing their job.

And that's where the Everley CelluFit Sculpt Legging comes in...

...designed to give your body support and structure all day long, so that moving feels easy again.

Introducing: the Everley CelluFit Sculpt Legging

Smiling woman in her fifties wearing the grey CelluFit Sculpt Legging

1. Knitted-in contour lines. Dark contour bands are knitted right into the fabric: they curve over your hips, frame your seat in a heart shape at the back and wrap above the knees. Where the lines run, the knit is firmer, so you feel gentle, targeted hold exactly where you move most: when you walk, stand, cook, work or simply get on with your day.

Your body gets a feeling of structure, instead of sagging into the day.

2. Seamless, even compression. At the same time the seamless knit holds you firmly but comfortably from the high waist down to the ankle, with no side seams to dig in and a wide waistband that stays put instead of rolling down.

3. 3D textured knit. On top of that, a raised diamond and honeycomb texture at the knees and lower legs adds grip and structure, and gives a smoother look under the fabric with every step.

It can't do your exercises for you. But it makes moving feel easier, and that's what gets you moving more.

In other words, the legging gives your body the support and structure it's been missing, without a workout plan or a new diet.

The CelluFit takes over the part your body finds hardest on its own: holding everything together, all day.

It gives you a gentle daily nudge to stand taller and keep moving, while you live your life exactly as before.

What that means for you:

You stand a little taller.

Your body feels held, not squeezed.

You move more, because moving feels good.

Your legs feel supported from morning to evening.

Your shape looks smoother and more sculpted.

And there's only one thing you have to do:

Put them on in the morning...

I've been wearing mine almost every day: to the shops, in the garden, on long walks and on the sofa in the evening.

What I noticed after a few weeks:

And most importantly: I stopped feeling like my body was working against me.

Designed to flatter you from every angle

The heart-shaped lines at the back frame your seat for a lifted look; the curved lines at the front draw the eye in at the waist. See all three colours here.

If it helped me feel like this, I honestly think it's worth a try for you too.

Just imagine...

...you get dressed in thirty seconds and feel held, comfortable and ready for the day.

...you catch your reflection in a shop window and you're standing tall, not slumping.

...you say yes to the long walk, the stairs and the day out, because moving feels good again.

With the Everley CelluFit Sculpt Legging all of this becomes a lot easier.

I mean, what do you have to lose?

You simply pull them on, get on with your day as usual, and you'll feel the difference.

I know this was a lot of information. Believe me, I get it.

You probably have a few questions, so let me answer the most common ones.

QUESTION 1:
Will it work for me?

It's the first thing everyone asks me...

I know how it feels to have spent money on things that promised the world and changed nothing.

So here is my honest answer: the legging won't do the work for you, and it isn't a medical product. What it does is give you firm, comfortable support and a sculpted shape from the moment you put it on, and that makes it much easier to keep moving through the day.

Of course, if you wear the leggings once a week and spend the rest of it on the sofa, they won't work miracles.

INFO: Want the most out of them? Wear them every day.

The support only works while you're wearing it. Take them off, and your body is back on its own.

It's that simple, and it's why so many women end up wanting more than one pair.

Most of us started with one legging... and then noticed it spent half the week in the wash.

With a second (and third) pair to rotate, you can wear them every day:

  • ✓ no days off
  • ✓ one on, one in the wash, one ready
  • ✓ the same comfortable support every day
  • ✓ a colour for every outfit

If you're serious about feeling the difference, don't let your only pair sit in the laundry basket every other day: get at least two.

How do I get the CelluFit Sculpt Legging?

I know exactly what happens if nothing changes.

I've seen it in so many women, and in myself.

You keep trying things that only work on the surface.

A little progress, then nothing.

More stiffness, less energy, less confidence.

And while you're hoping "it'll sort itself out", your body keeps drifting the same way.

I'm not saying this to scare you. I'm saying it because it's true:

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

The decision is yours.

Carry on as before?

Or give your body the support it's actually been missing?
